The department of Political Science was established at the very inception of the college in 1964. In the first four years, Political Science was taught at the intermediate level. However, in 1968, the department was elevated as a full-fledged department with a BA programme in Political Science. Ever since its establishment, the department has catered to the needs of  thousands of aspiring students who wanted to pursue their studies in political theory, political thought, state and government. Apart from these basic subjects, the department has offered courses in Public Administration and Human Rights. Recently, we offered a course in New Social Movements. 

Eminent faculty has been an important feature of the department. One of our former faculties was appointed as a member of  State Human Rights Commission. More than a dozen former faculties were promoted as Principals. Many of them served in the syndicate of the University. Some of our former faculties continue their service as Professors and Directors of various schools and departments in State and Central Universities. 

As a sequel to the illustrious faculty, the alumni of the department also excelled in various fields such as business, film, politics and education. Efforts for further elevation as a PG and Research department are going on.
