DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

The Department of Commerce was started during the academic year 1980-81 in response to a growing demand for commerce education.  The department offers a three-year degree program spread over six semesters with specialisation in computer application. Commerce and industry are the pillars of any developing economy. The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the different angles relating to accounting, finance, banking business, organizational behaviour and economy. Through this programme a student gains a comprehensive view of the functioning of an organization and also cultivates good communication skills. The undergraduate programme offers an innovative syllabus which caters to the varying needs of students. The department also offers certificate courses to equip the students to meet industry demands.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The B.Com degree course is designed with the objective of equipping the students to cope with the changes and challenges in the industrial and business world.

The Bachelor’s degree in Commerce provided in the college has the following aims and objectives.

  1. Get the students acquainted with the various aspects of Commerce subjects.
  2. Prepare the students for immediate employment as Executives, secretarial and office assistants.
  3. Provide the students the knowledge of modern office procedures and practices.
  4. To develop skills required for preparing, maintaining and handling office records and information.
  5. To provide knowledge and skills needed to establish private ventures in this area.
  6. To train the students in the skill of  drafting various kinds of business and official letters and notes.
