Sree Narayana College, Cherthala, a premier institution of higher education in Kerala was established in 1964 by Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam with the sole objective of providing quality education to the youth, especially of the backward communities in the state. Named after the internationally recognised saint and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, the college lays special emphasis on character building based on the teachings of the guiding spirit who believed that ‘Educated youth could shed the shackles of social discrimination and face the challenges of life with confidence and pride. The vision of Sree Narayana Guru – ‘Enlightenment through Education – materialized when the college was inaugurated on 14th July 1964 by the late Sri R Sankar, the founder Secretary of SN Trusts and former Chief Minister of Kerala. 

From its humble beginnings as a junior college Sree Narayana College, Cherthala has now attained the status of a senior college offering 12 Under Graduate Courses and 6 Post Graduate courses. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, the college was accredited with an A Grade by NAAC in 2015. This co-educational institution has 1861 Students on its rolls, 81 Faculty members and 26 Non-teaching staff.
