Student Support
KRIPA (STUDENT AID FUND)
Sree Narayana College, Cherthala is situated in an economically and socially backward area and a large number of students are in need of financial assistance. Many of the students work in study hours to support their families and hence are not able to utilize their full potential. To appease the hunger of our students, Kripa was founded in the year 2004.
Objectives of the practice
- To provide financial assistance to underprivileged students in the institution.
- To eliminate classroom hunger.
Monthly subscriptions from the teachers and donations from the public and Alumni contribute to Kripa’s funding. The students associated with Kripa are provided lunch and study materials.
Kripa has been functioning since 2004 and is a success to date, aiding the students, especially in academic improvement. Kripa has been instrumental in bringing down the rate of student dropout and plays a significant role in enhancing the academic performance of the students. Kripa has so far given help to more than 700 students.
During Covid 19 pandemic Kripa extended its aid to the students lacking smartphones at home. Kripa donated a total of 10 smartphones to our most deserving students from different departments.
The significant hurdle encountered is the identification of deserving students. Some students are diffident to approaching kripa directly. Usually, it is their tutors or friends who bring them to Kripa. As a large section of our students needs financial assistance it is beyond the means of Kripa to cater to the needs of all of them. Even though Kripa receives donations from generous people both from inside and outside the campus, the resources are still insufficient to meet the requirements.
