The Department of History emerged as a full-fledged department in November 1998 with 18 students.Prof.K.P Mohanan as the Head, K.K.Pavana and K.B.Jayasree were the faculties at the time of its inception. The department offers a programme in BA History.

The department envisions broadening the horizon of knowledge of the students by offering a handful of certificate courses. The certificate courses in “Tourism and Cultural Studies” and “Historical Perspectives on Women Empowerment in India” are offered exclusively to the students of the department, whereas the multidisciplinary certificate courses “Emotional Intelligence” and “Foundation Programme for Civil Service Examination” are also opened to the students of other departments as well.

Vision and Mission

• Imbibing social values, thereby transforming the students into socially responsible citizens.
• Contribute towards the holistic development of students with a bearing on their critical thinking, creativity, personality, soft skills etc.
• Promotion of research and writings in local history.

The department is endowed with competent faculty members who are committed to innovative Teaching-Learning methods and have a proclivity toward hard work.

For the benefit of students, the department collaborates with other institutions. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with Mahendra’s Education Private Limited, Thiruvananthapuram in order to support the undergraduate students of History to choose their career path once they complete their programme in BA History and also to equip them to face various competitive examinations. Collaboration Agreements have been made with the History Departments of other colleges so that transfer of knowledge, sharing of resources ,faculty exchange etc may be facilitated.
