DBT STAR COLLEGE SCHEME
The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology initiated Star College Scheme to improve science education and training at undergraduate level. The programme envisages overall development of academic and physical infrastructure of the participating science departments through procurement of equipments, books, journals, consumables and training programmes for faculty improvement. It aims at comprehensive development of students through introduction of ‘hands-on’ experiments outside the syllabi, internships and training programmes, exposure to laboratories and industries, interdisciplinary research activities and outreach programmes.
Sree Narayana College, Cherthala has been supported under “Strengthening Component” of DBT-STAR College Scheme from the year 2020. Five undergraduate science departments of our college are supported under the programme for a period of three years.
OBJECTIVES:
- To kindle scientific research aptitude and creative thinking in undergraduate science education through experimental work.
- To train undergraduates in developing skills related to scientific research and science communication.
- To augment the teaching and learning environments.
- To strengthen the academic research among students to initiate amendment of the laboratory component of science curricula to make science education more effective.
- To collaborate with National Research institutions to provide access and exposure to undergraduates regarding the technologies of modern science through vacation training, projects, industry visits etc
- To conduct Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for faculty to optimize their technical capabilities in science teaching
- Knowledge dissemination to society through training programmes.
- To draw undergraduates for contributing to the biotechnological manpower of the nation.
